Close to 80% of the world’s web servers are Linux-powered, parse (interpret) PHP code, and have Apache & MySQL server applications installed on them. sNews has been developed to run on an Apache server with its mod_rewrite module enabled, which allows sNews to use the functionality of the .htaccess file to re-write the URLs for its pages and articles. sNews also requires PHP version 4.3.x or above, and uses a MySQL database for data storage. Generally speaking, almost all competitive web hosting companies offer these services. sNews will not, in its current form, run on a Microsoft-powered (IIS) server.
- Apache with mod_rewrite enabled
- PHP version 4.3.x or above
- .htaccess (require editing permissions.)
Once this has been confirmed, you are ready for Getting Started with sNews!
