For example, if you logged into the app on a family member’s phone, you might not need to change your password as long as you log out. But if you logged in on a browser on a public computer, the browser may have saved your login info if you weren’t careful.

In that case, even if you log out, anyone can log back in again if they know your email address. In fact, they might not even need to know your email address, as it might be saved in the Instagram login form on the browser.

How to Log Out From All Devices, Step by Step?

In this section, I will explain how to log out of every device you logged into on Instagram, regardless of the device type you have.

What you will need is to be logged into your Instagram account on a computer, phone, or tablet.

You must have access to your Instagram account to log out of all devices; if you don’t remember your password, you can usually reset it by sending a verification code to your email address or phone number or by using a 2FA verification app.

Once you logged into your account, either via your desktop browser or the mobile app, follow these instructions to log out of other devices.

How to Log Out Of Your Instagram Account on a Desktop or Laptop?

To log out of Instagram on a web browser, follow these steps:

1. Click on the three-line hamburger menu that says More in the bottom left corner, as shown in this screenshot:

2. Click on See more in Accounts Center. This option should be highlighted in blue, as shown in the following screenshot:

5. Under Logins on other devices, you will see all other devices you are logged into. You can click on any one of them to see the date and time of recent logins and to log out.
6. Alternatively, under the list of Logins on other devices, click on Select devices to log out. Then, select all devices you want to log out of and click on Log out, as shown in the following screenshot.

Note that these steps might not work if you didn’t connect your Instagram account to your Facebook/Meta account, in which case you won’t have access to the Account Center.

In that case, the process for logging out will be similar, with some slight differences. Here is how to do it:

1. Click on the three-line hamburger menu that says More in the bottom left corner.
2. Click on Settings, which is the first option at the top.
3. Click on Login Activity in the left-side menu.
4. You will see your recent logins. You can log out of any of them by clicking on the down-arrow button next to each login and then clicking on Log out.
5. Alternatively, you can click on This wasn’t me under a login if you don’t recognize the login. Instagram will prompt you to reset your password and will log you out of all devices.

1. Click on your profile picture on the bottom right corner.
2. In the top-right corner, click on the three-lines/hamburger menu.

Instagram Lite is a lighter version of the standard Instagram app. It was released by Meta for people with limited storage spaces on their devices.

It has most of the features the main Instagram app has, but some features have been excluded to reduce the app’s size.

Here is how to log out of all devices using the Instagram Lite app.

1. Click on your profile picture on the bottom right corner.
2. In the top-right corner, click on the three-lines/hamburger menu.
3. Click on Settings and privacy, which should be the top option.
4. Click on Security.

What does “This Device” mean in the login activity section?

Instagram will list your current device – the one you are using at the moment – under “This Device.” You don’t have to worry about that device if it is your personal device that is securely protected with a password and which nobody else can access.

You might not recognize the details of the device if you are unfamiliar with the browser type or device model you are using.

Why is my login location incorrect?

Under each login, Instagram will tell you the approximate location of the device. Under recent logins from each device, Instagram will also tell you where each login occurred.

Note that this is just an approximation. Instagram uses various factors to approximate your location.

Details such as your IP address, the cellular towers you are connected to, and whether you are using a VPN may affect this approximation. Thus, you may see a login from a nearby city instead of your precise location – as an example, you might see a login from Manhattan despite being in Brooklyn or a login from New York despite being in New Jersey.

If the login is from a totally different area, such as a country across the world, you may have cause for concern. In that case, if you don’t recognize the login (you didn’t travel there or use a VPN), I would recommend logging out of that device and resetting your password.

Is changing the password enough to log out all devices?

Usually, yes. If you change the password to your account, it will generally log out all other devices.

However, just to be sure, I recommend manually logging out of all devices for added security.

How can I ensure my Instagram account is secure?

The first thing I recommend doing is setting a secure password for your account. Here are some tips:

• Use a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
• Use something you will remember.
• Do NOT use personal information, including your birthdate, street address, or Instagram username.

Then, set up two-factor authentication so that even if somebody has your password, they can’t log in without a verification code. Instagram supports a wide range of two-factor authentication methods – you can add your phone number, an app like Google Authenticator, and more.

I recommend Google Authenticator, as it is the safest. However, using your phone number is also pretty safe.

Setting up two-factor authentication will also make it easier to reset your password if you forget it.

Consider downloading Instagram login backup codes from your privacy and security settings and writing those codes down; they will allow you to log in when you don’t have access to your 2FA verification method.

Be aware of common phishing methods that can steal your account info. For example, if you randomly receive a text claiming to be from Instagram, don’t click the link in the text and enter your login information.

Finally, don’t log in on devices you don’t own. If you have to, use incognito mode and log in via the web browser. That way, once you close the browser, your password and login details won’t be saved.

Alternatively, if you are using the app on a device you don’t own, log out after your session but also delete the app just to be sure. Never allow one-click logins (a feature that allows you to log in to Instagram by tapping your profile picture) on devices you don’t own.
